After completion of the basic therapy, lifelong medical follow-up is required. This includes the regular follow-up examinations in our DHZ after three, six and twelve months and then usually once a year. Any complications that may arise can thus be identified in good time and countermeasures initiated. The regular follow-up appointments also ensure the quality of the CI.

The objectives are:

  • Checking the medical findings (eardrum, wound healing, implant bed)
  • Optimisation of the speech processor setting
  • Technical check of the cochlear implant system
  • Review of the hearing success achieved
  • Information about technical innovations
  • Prescription of additional support measures (speech therapy hearing training, rehabilitation measures, etc.)
  • Assistance with socio-medical issues
  • Counselling of patients and relatives, psychosocial support by educators: Clarification of general satisfaction with the CI (e.g. wearing comfort, adjustment, possible upgrade) and review of the contralateral side in order to offer the possibility of optimal care
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with doctors, speech therapists/speech therapists at home, early intervention centres, schools, companies and workplaces.
